About the Procedure (up to 21 weeks gestation)
- We perform surgical abortions for pregnancies up to 21 weeks and 6 days, as permitted by law.
- The procedure is a vacuum aspiration method performed under intravenous anesthesia, which is considered less physically demanding. You will be asleep and feel no pain during the surgery.
- A signed consent form from you and your partner is generally required. However, exceptions may be possible based on your circumstances; please consult us. Parental consent is required for minors.
- This procedure is not covered by Japanese Health Insurance. Costs vary depending on the gestational week and will be clearly explained at your first consultation.

Q. Up to how many weeks of pregnancy can I have the procedure?
A. Our hospital handles first-trimester abortions up to 11 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy. We do not perform second-trimester abortions from 12 weeks of pregnancy onward. Because the procedure can no longer be performed here once the pregnancy progresses further, please consult us as early as possible.

Q. How much does it cost?
A. An induced abortion is treated as self-pay (not covered by insurance), and the cost varies depending on the number of weeks of pregnancy and your condition. We will clearly explain the detailed cost at the time of your examination, so please first consult us by phone.
Q. Is my partner’s (spouse’s) consent required?
A. Under the Maternal Health Act, the consent of the spouse (partner) is required as a general rule. However, depending on your circumstances, the procedure may be possible with the consent of the patient alone, so please consult us first.
Q. What about the physical burden after the procedure and any effect on future pregnancies?
A. Our hospital uses the aspiration (suction) method, which places less burden on the body, and we perform the procedure with attention to safety; however, this does not mean there is no risk at all.
