Fertility Screening

Fertility Screening

If you have been trying to conceive without success, understanding your body is the first step. At Hamada Hospital’s Center for Reproductive Medicine in Ochanomizu, our board-certified specialists conduct systematic fertility screenings to accurately identify the causes of infertility. These causes can originate from the female partner, the male partner, both, or a combination of factors. Based on the results, we will work with you to create an optimal treatment plan. A full course of tests may take one to several months, as some tests must be performed at specific times in the menstrual cycle.

Fertility Screening for Women

  • Basal Body Temperature (BBT) Charting: Tracks your menstrual cycle and helps determine if ovulation is occurring.
  • Hormone Blood Tests: Measures levels of hormones related to pregnancy (e.g., LH, FSH, prolactin, estrogen) and checks for infections like Chlamydia, which can cause infertility.
  • Hysterosalpingography (HSG): An X-ray exam using contrast dye to check for blockages or abnormalities in the fallopian tubes and uterus. (Note: HSG is only available to patients undergoing treatment at our hospital.)
  • Postcoital Test (Huhner Test): Examines the interaction between sperm and cervical mucus to ensure sperm can travel into the uterus.
  • Laparoscopy: A minimally invasive surgical procedure to directly observe the pelvic organs, used when other tests suggest abnormalities like endometriosis or adhesions.

Fertility Screening for Men

  • Semen Analysis: Evaluates sperm count, motility, and morphology to identify potential male-factor infertility. Approximately half of infertility cases involve a male factor, making it crucial for both partners to be tested.
